How Columinity Matches All Agile Frameworks And Methodologies

With Columinity (formerly Scrum Team Survey), we developed a tool to help teams continuously improve by visualizing the quality of their teamwork based on scientific insights.

Organizations can diagnose one or many teams, receive extensive feedback, and resolve broader company-wide issues. We designed the tool to empower teams to take control over their continuous improvement. Teams come first in our philosophy. The foundation of our tool is a scientifically validated Agile team effectiveness model. For seven years, we performed case studies and gathered data from over 5.000 Agile teams to incrementally develop the model. We published a peer-reviewed scientific paper with Prof. Daniel Russo in the academic journal “Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology” (TOSEM).

In addition to the Agile Team Effectiveness model, we developed a preliminary model to investigate teamwork quality. It measures factors like ‘Task Interdependence,’ ‘Task Cohesion,’ ‘Social Cohesion,’ ‘Social Identification,’ ‘Psychological Safety,’ ‘Team Goal Commitment,’ and ‘Relational Conflict.’

We expect that high-quality teamwork results in measurably higher outcomes. We measure the following three variables as part of our model: the satisfaction of stakeholders (directly by stakeholders or self-reported by teams), team morale, and team performance.

Finally, we also measure several factors that contribute to high-quality teamwork or can impede it. This includes supporting leadership, cross-functionality, team autonomy, and support structures for (dynamic) teaming.
